Supporting change together: Brilliant’s commitment to Rethink Food
Written by Mike Davis
Within Brilliant, I’ve always wanted our impact and mission to extend far beyond the world of marketing.
So over the last few years, supporting the endeavours of Rethink Food has been a real privilege for myself and our team.
If you’re unaware of their vital work, Rethink Food is a community interest company dedicated to addressing two of the most pressing challenges of our time: food insecurity and the climate crisis.

In particular, they focus on how these issues affect the UK’s young children and their education.
Through its innovative programmes and partnerships; it educates young people about sustainability, equips them with the tools to make informed choices, and fosters a deeper understanding of food’s role in our health and planet.
So inspiring is their mission in fact, that I decided to make it one of my own, joining Rethink Food as a Non-Executive Director in 2022.
My role within Rethink Food
Serving as a Non-Executive Director at Rethink Food is a role I don’t take lightly. It provides me with the opportunity to work alongside a passionate team, where I guide the organisation’s delivery of services and strategic growth.
But at its core, this partnership is about more than offering guidance; it’s about collaborating to create meaningful and sustainable change.
My role includes contributing to the company’s long-term vision, helping to identify opportunities to scale its impact, and ensuring its mission aligns with its operational practices.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness the tangible difference Rethink Food is making, not just in the lives of young people but also in the reshaping of attitudes towards food and sustainability.
Why Rethink Food matters
Food is something we all share, yet its impact on our lives and the environment is often overlooked or misunderstood. Rethink Food’s work reminds us of the importance of addressing food insecurity and waste with urgency. It also champions the need to educate future generations about sustainable food practices, empowering young people with the knowledge they need to create a healthier, more sustainable future.

As a business leader, I see the ripple effect this work creates. When young people understand where their food comes from, how it’s produced, and how it can impact their health and the environment, they become ambassadors of change. This knowledge inspires families, communities, and, eventually, industries to rethink the way we approach food.
Moving forward together
Our partnership with Rethink Food reflects Brilliant’s broader philosophy: businesses can and should be a force for good.
By supporting organisations like Rethink Food, we’re not only helping to address urgent societal challenges but also demonstrating how businesses can lead with purpose.
I encourage other businesses to consider how they might support causes like Rethink Food, whether through funding, expertise, or even just raising awareness. Together, we can create a more sustainable future—one step, one meal, and one young person at a time.
