My first six(ish) months at Brilliant Agency have been, well – Brilliant!
So how did I end up here, devising and strategising social media content for brands like Lyle’s Golden Syrup and SKIPPY® Peanut Butter?
As I write this blog, my to-do list is growing but I have fully embraced agency life and have never been more fulfilled.
I have been a Social Media Manager since I got out of university. Over the past 12 years, I’ve seen every trend, every channel, and made every mistake you can make in social media marketing – but I’ve also managed to learn a thing or two.
When I first started, social media was still in its relative infancy, and was still primarily used for stalking your friends from high school. In those days everything was organic and there wasn’t really a rule book to follow – well, I don’t remember seeing one.
I’ve seen the creation of new tools, the rise and fall of new social channels, the progression of content, and the importance of having the budget to match your ambitions.
In my second job out of Uni, at a now national gym chain, I learnt the value of a budget (or lack thereof). I managed to build a large, engaged audience of nearly 100,000 avid gym goers in under 5 years with practically zero budget!
As my career progressed and I moved into new companies with new goals and objectives, I would run into the same budget issues. But I persevered and managed to grow channels, create content, and deliver results on a shoestring.
When I joined Brilliant, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had worked at an agency before, but the team was small and our clients were reluctant to put money behind social media, even when we delivered fantastic results year in, year out.
But I no longer need to fight, well, not as hard. The pedigree we have as an agency and the results we have achieved for some incredible clients means we can create content and social ads, offer community management and social strategy, that match our clients’ ambitions without having to worry about where the next boost payment is going to come from.
The team that has been put together has a vast amount of experience in social, marketing, content, strategy, and everything in between. And even with the vast experience that I have in social media marketing I am always learning something new, even from the most junior members of the team.
With budget and time to achieve our creative vision we have been able to continue our fantastic work for clients like Lyle’s Golden Syrup.
So here’s to the next six months – I can’t wait to see what it brings!
