I’m Hayley, the new Senior Account Manager at Brilliant. I joined the team in the thick of lockdown meaning my first few months have been a little out of the ordinary. But before we get to that, here’s a little about me (and a picture, too).
I’ve been in the world of marketing for 10+ years now and still going strong. Digital strategy is my bag, but I’m a full creative at heart and really do live by the phrase ‘Content is King’. Just give me a good brief and a cuppa, and I’m happy.
As a human being, I naturally love food, so joining an agency that specialises in marketing for food and beverage is a win-win for me. I’ll never go hungry again, surely?
My first 3-months at Brilliant
When I think about my first 3-months at Brilliant, it all feels a little insignificant to what the world is facing right now. So much has changed for everyone in a short space of time and my story is just one of many. I just happened to start a new job in lockdown, that’s all.
For the majority of us, life has been focused on the here and now, with no real time to reflect. Without this time, we lose out on the chance develop as human beings as we can’t process events or encourage change.
With that in mind, now feels like a good time to pause and look back as I share my story with Brilliant so far…
Or not meeting them (in person, at least). My first day at Brilliant was the first day of lockdown, so I missed all the excitement of starting a new job. The apprehension was ever present though, and my new (virtual) team went above and beyond to make me feel a part of the family.
I was worried about being out of the loop, but regular video chats, calls, emails and even personal texts have ensured I’m fully in the loop, and it feels great. I can already feel bonds building, and I can’t wait to meet everyone in person soon.
It’s not a challenge I ever thought I’d face when starting a new job but taking on a new role remotely has encouraged me to have more confidence. Whereas previously I might have second guessed myself or got another opinion, I’ve had to believe more in what I already know.
Working independently from a team can feel daunting at times, especially when there’s no one around to ask a quick question or two. Thank god for video calls and a team that’s only too happy to help when needed.
Brilliant also has a great online resource of videos and guides to help newbies get up to speed. Screen recordings of processes and systems have been great!
It’s fair to say there was a bit of panicking when lockdown hit, and I was aware clients needed voices they could trust. This meant the handing over of client communication was a little steadier than usual.
The team at Brilliant have seamlessly integrated me into client conversations ensuring both parties are comfortable with what needs to be done. I’m now independently taking on accounts and eager to do more to help the team.
It’s been a weirdly wonderful start to my life at Brilliant, and I wouldn’t change a thing. There’s so much to look forward to with new projects and clients on the horizon, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll bring!
